WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) announced he secured more than $29 million for broadband expansion in Lenoir County that will bring qualifying broadband to 15,256 unserved households across the county. These funds will come from the bipartisan infrastructure package supportedby Senator Tillis.

“I was proud to work with my colleagues to craft and pass the bipartisan infrastructure package that is already delivering millions in federal resources for targeted infrastructure needs in North Carolina,” said Senator Tillis. “This broadband expansion in Lenoir County will deliver much-needed internet access to unserved households, and I look forward to its implementation soon.”

The grants, which are being made available as part of The Broadband Infrastructure Program, were funded by the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2021. The program is designed to support broadband infrastructure deployment in unserved areas, especially rural areas. NTIA, an agency within the U.S. Department of Commerce, thoroughly and objectively reviewed applications using a three-stage process, and the Commerce Department awarded grants to 12 states and one territory.
