WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) and his Republican colleagues on the Senate Banking Committee will boycott the scheduled markup in light of Sarah Bloom Raskin’s evasive and unconvincing responses to numerous committee questions. Ms. Raskin is currently under consideration for the role of Vice Chairman for Supervision of the Federal Reserve Board of Governors.

“All Senators – not just Banking Committee Republicans – should feel confident the committee process includes the thorough and proper vetting of any nominee under consideration. Ms. Raskin has a documented past of utilizing the ‘revolving door’ to leverage her experience at the Federal Reserve and Department of the Treasury into potentially-preferential treatment for Reserve Trust, a company whose board she served on,” said Senator Tillis. “Regrettably, when asked about this, Ms. Raskin provided either evasive answers or chose not to engage in questioning altogether. In fact, Ms. Raskin claimed she either did ‘not recall’ or was ‘unaware’ in response to 36 questions for the record on this topic, all justifiably asked by Banking Committee members.”

“Her repeated evasion conveys a lack of candor and transparency that makes it impossible to believe that proper vetting of her nomination occurred,” Senator Tillis continued. “Chairman Brown has a responsibility to ensure the committee process is thorough and does not merely push nominees through despite unresolved questions. I look forward to proceeding to a vote on Ms. Raskin and other pending nominees once the basic answers Banking Republicans seek are provided.”
