WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC), a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, released the following statement on the announcement by Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer that he would retire at the end of the Supreme Court’s current term:
“I want to thank Justice Breyer for his decades of service to our country and his respect for the Court as an institution and his fellow Supreme Court Justices. I hope President Biden will select a nominee who is well within the mainstream and respects the limited role of the federal judiciary, rather than catering to the far-left by selecting a nominee who will legislate from the bench and push their preferred liberal policy objectives. As a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, I will study the nominee’s record closely and treat them with fairness and civility, a basic courtesy many of my Democratic colleagues did away with for Supreme Court nominees during the previous Administration.”
