CHARLOTTE, N.C.– Today, U.S. Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) applauded President Biden’s approval of a disaster declaration for Western North Carolina. Senators Tillis and Burr sent a letter last week supporting Governor Cooper’s disaster declaration request.
“After visiting Haywood County hours after the storm hit, I saw the devastation caused by Tropical Storm Fred, with hundreds of destroyed homes and roads and bridges that are now unusable. Many families are reeling, and entire communities still have a long road ahead. I am glad that President Biden approved the governor’s declaration so affected North Carolinians will now have the assistance of the federal government as they begin the recovery process. I encourage any of those impacted and who have questions about the assistance program to contact my office.”
Any North Carolinian who suffered damage and needs assistance in the designated counties can apply for assistance by registering at http://disasterassistance.gov or by calling 1-800-621-FEMA(3362) or 1-800-462-7585 for the hearing impaired.
North Carolinians with questions on how to apply can contact Senator Tillis’ office at (704) 509-9087.
