WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) released the following statement opposing the confirmation of Alejandro Nicholas Mayorkas to be the next Secretary for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS):
“President Biden has made it clear that immigration policy will be a major focus for the DHS Secretary, and I am disappointed that Senate Democrats rejected a commonsense request for Mr. Mayorkas to come before the Senate Judiciary Committee to answer questions about how he would handle immigration issues,” said Senator Tillis. “I am also concerned about the findings of a DHS Inspector General report showing that Mr. Mayorkas improperly intervened to help get EB-5 visas for wealthy foreign investors after being lobbied by well-connected politicians. Given the outstanding questions about his judgment and policy views, I cannot support his confirmation.”
