WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Senate Democrats blocked the JUSTICE Act, legislation co-sponsored by Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) and introduced by Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) that provides long-term solutions focused on police reform, accountability, and transparency, while also promoting efforts to find solutions to systemic issues affecting people of color such as education and health disparities.
Earlier today, Senator Tillis appeared on Fox News to discuss the legislation.
“In the aftermath of the murder of George Floyd, the JUSTICE Act introduced by Senator Scott was a commonsense solution that made much-needed reforms to law enforcement, strengthened accountability, and improved transparency,” said Senator Tillis. “It’s shameful that Chuck Schumer and Senate Democrats refused to even open up debate so we could reach consensus and get police reform signed into law. It’s clear Schumer and Pelosi care more about scoring cheap political points than getting a positive outcome to keep Americans safe.”
