WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Senators Thom Tillis (R-NC) and Richard Burr (R-NC) announced two North Carolina students were selected for the 58th Annual United States Senate Youth Program (USSYP). The senators jointly applauded the outstanding educational achievements of William Harris, from Charlotte, and Rebecca Segal, from Raleigh.
“William and Rebecca are impressive students and wonderful ambassadors representing the great state of North Carolina,” said Senator Tillis. “Their educational achievements and active leadership in public service make this recognition well-deserved. I was honored to speak with both of these young achievers and look forward to seeing all they accomplish.”
“I want to offer my sincerest congratulations to William and Rebecca on their selection as a delegate for the Senate Youth Program,” said Senator Burr. “This accomplishment is a result of their strong leadership skills and commitment to public service. Even though we are unable to meet this year, it is my hope they will both continue to serve as leaders among their peers, in their schools, and throughout their community. I know they will continue to make North Carolina proud.”
Harris and Segal are active leaders in their high school and community, serving in student government and multiple clubs in and outside of school. The program, sponsored by the U.S. Senate and fully funded by The Hearst Foundations, accepts only 104 students each year and awards the student delegates with $5,000 in undergraduate scholarship funds.
