WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) issued the following statement after voting against the “Green New Deal”:
“The Green New Deal is an absurdly expensive and unserious policy proposal and the underlying problem is that it seeks to give the federal government more control over the American people, attempting to dictate the kind of house you live in, the kind of car you drive, the type of job you have, and the way you live your life. Such a heavy-handed government approach should never be the answer to the challenges our nation faces. It’s not the American way.
“Climate change does pose real long-term challenges to our country and the rest of the world. Economic prosperity and protecting our environment are not mutually exclusive goals. I believe we can address climate change with realistic and responsible market-driven solutions that foster innovation, competition, and economic growth. I look forward to working with my colleagues on those solutions.”
