WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC), a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, issued the following statement following Associate Justice Anthony Kennedy’s announcement that he will retire from the Supreme Court of the United States:
“For the last thirty years, Justice Kennedy has served honorably on the Supreme Court of the United States and has left a lasting impact on American jurisprudence. I want to thank him and his family for his service to the American people and wish him well in his retirement.
“As a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, I look forward to carefully examining the nominee put forth by the President to fill the vacancy in the coming months. It is important that whoever is nominated has the background and experience necessary to firmly uphold the Constitution and commit to the rule of law.”
