WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) announced that Ted Lehman will serve as his next Chief of Staff.
Lehman is currently the Chief Counsel for Nominations and Senior Counsel for the Senate Judiciary Committee under Chairman Chuck Grassley. Lehman, who has been a counsel for the Senate Judiciary Committee since 2009, most recently played a leading role on behalf of the Chairman in the successful effort to confirm Judge Neil Gorsuch as Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, and has been extensively involved in several other Supreme Court nominations and numerous senior Executive nominations, including the Attorney General and Solicitor General. In addition to his nominations related responsibilities, Lehman handled a number of legislative matters within the Judiciary Committee’s jurisdiction.
Lehman also has years of private sector experience as a litigator, serving as an associate for Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld, one of the largest law firms in the world, where he handled both civil and criminal litigation matters. He began his legal career as a law clerk to then Chief Judge Thomas F. Hogan, on the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.
“Ted brings a wealth of invaluable Senate policy and procedural experience, and is widely respected for his work on behalf of the Chairman’s priorities on the Judiciary Committee to both confirm nominees and pass bipartisan legislation,” said Senator Thom Tillis. “Ted’s experience and expertise, particularly as a chief counsel and senior advisor on the Judiciary Committee, will be vital to assisting my efforts to work with my colleagues in both parties to pursue bipartisan solutions, from fixing our criminal justice system to reforming our immigration laws.”
“I’ve relied on Ted’s judgment for a number of years,” said Chairman Chuck Grassley. “While I’m sorry to see him leave my Committee staff, I’m pleased he’ll be staying in the Senate family. I’m confident he will serve Senator Tillis and North Carolina well, just as he has me and the state of Iowa.”
