Today, Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) released the following statement in response to the Obama Administration’s release of 15 Guantanamo detainees to the United Arab Emirates:
“President Obama has blatantly ignored the lessons he should have learned from his previous transfers of terrorists from Guantanamo to other countries, which resulted in terrorists returning to the battlefield to fight against the United States and our allies,” said Senator Tillis. “Releasing more dangerous terrorists from our custody will only put the safety and security of our nation and our troops in greater jeopardy.”
Last year, Senator Tillis visited the U.S. Naval Station at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, where he was joined by fellow senators. The Senators toured the Guantanamo Bay base, observed detention operations, and met with military commanders.
