Today, U.S. Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) welcomed Vice President Joe Biden’s visit to the Duke Cancer Institute in Durham, North Carolina, with the following statement:

“It doesn’t matter who you are, what you do, or where you come from. Every single American has been affected by cancer and the heartbreak and adversity that comes with it. The need to rid the world of this terrible disease isn’t just a national goal—it’s an intimately personal mission for each and every one of us. Vice President Biden’s visit to Duke University today validates North Carolina’s position as a global leader in the fight against cancer, home to innovative research institutions and some of the most pioneering scientists and researchers in the world. North Carolina has served as a model for the nation with successful public-private partnerships and investments that have brought government, industry and academia together to relentlessly pursue the treatment and ultimate eradication of deadly diseases. The future has never looked more promising, and we have every reason to believe that the cure to cancer could very well be discovered here in North Carolina.”
