WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, following the vote by the United Nations Security Council to pave the way to lift economic sanctions on Iran, Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) issued the following statement:
“The Obama administration has violated the public trust by giving Iran the green light to pursue its nuclear weapon ambitions and then rushing to the United Nations to lift economic sanctions on Iran before even bothering to seek the approval of Congress. It is abundantly clear that President Obama never intended to allow the elected representatives of the American people to have a voice on his bad deal with Iran, which grants one costly concession after another and ignores 40 years of open hostility from the Iranian regime. The Obama administration’s outrageous move to sidestep the American public means that even if Congress votes to block the deal, sanction relief will still proceed, giving the Iranian mullahs tens of billions of dollars they can use to continue to fund their global terror network and threaten the safety and security of the United States, Israel, and the rest of the world.”
