WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) applauded the U.S. Senate for passing the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for fiscal year 2016, 71-25. The passage of the NDAA is vital to the security of our nation, ensuring men and women in uniform are properly trained, equipped, and ready to defend our freedoms at a moment’s notice.
Last week, the Senate voted to include Senator Tillis’ amendment to the NDAA that will not only save, but increase the C-130 presence at Fort Bragg’s Pope Airfield in North Carolina. The amendment is a direct answer to the Department of Defense and Air Force’s strategically flawed plan to completely dismantle the 440th Airlift Wing at Pope Airfield, the busiest airfield in the world for tactical aircraft training.
“I am pleased my colleagues came together to pass this vital piece of legislation, which included my amendment to save the C-130 presence at Fort Bragg. Our men and women in uniform risk their lives each day and as we face increasing national security threats, both foreign and domestic, our troops need access to the top resources and tools available,” said Senator Tillis. “While passage of the NDAA is a firm promise to our servicemembers, I now look forward to working with my friends across the aisle to quickly work through the appropriations process.”
