Today, Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) applauded a bipartisan proposal reached between Senate and House leadership and the Senate and House Agriculture Committees to restore crop insurance funding cuts in the omnibus that were originally included Bipartisan Budget Agreement. This crop insurance program is an irreplaceable safety net that protects farmers in North Carolina and across the nation. Senate Agriculture Committee Chairman Pat Roberts and House Agriculture Committee Chairman Mike Conaway announced the agreement this morning.

“America’s agricultural producers recently agreed to make difficult concessions on crop insurance in order to pass a long-term bipartisan Farm Bill,” said Senator Tillis. I want to thank Chairmen Pat Roberts and Mike Conaway for their efforts to successfully reach an agreement today with the Senate and House leadership to restore the funds for the agricultural safety net, preventing costly sacrifices our farmers and rural communities across the country cannot afford. I look forward to continuing to work with my colleagues on the Senate Agriculture Committee to help ensure our farmers and producers have the tools and resources they need to drive our economy and create jobs.”
